The Best Menopausal Skincare Routine Starts in the Kitchen.
ot with a cleanser. Not with a serum. And definitely not with another expensive moisturiser.
If your skin has become drier, dull or less radiant since menopause, it’s easy to believe you simply need better skincare.
The beauty industry certainly wants you to think so.
But what if your skin isn’t asking for another product?
What if it’s asking you to reconnect with your body?
During menopause, falling estrogen levels naturally slow collagen production, reduce hydration and change the structure of your skin. It’s tempting to search for the next miracle cream, but healthy skin isn’t something you can simply apply.
It’s something your body creates.
That’s why I believe the best menopausal skincare routine starts in the kitchen.
Not because food is another quick fix, but because your kitchen is where you reconnect with the everyday choices that nourish your body.
Every meal is an opportunity to provide the protein, healthy fats, fibre, micro-nutrients and hydration your skin needs to repair, renew and thrive.
This is the philosophy behind The Menopause Pantry.
It isn’t a diet, a meal plan or a list of foods you should avoid. It’s about creating a kitchen that makes nourishing yourself simple, enjoyable and sustainable.
It’s about understanding what your body is asking for, rather than guessing which supplement, serum or trend to try next.
Once you’ve built those foundations from within, it makes sense to choose skincare that supports your skin rather than adding to your body’s chemical burden.
Because healthy skin isn’t created in the bathroom.
It’s built in the kitchen.
Your Skin Can Only Build With What You Give It
Every single day, your body is repairing, renewing and rebuilding your skin.
In fact, it takes around 35 days for a skin cell created deep within your skin to reach the surface. Every one of those cells is built using the nutrients available to your body at the time.
Not from an expensive serum.
Not from a miracle cream.
From the food on your plate.
If your body doesn’t have the raw materials it needs, it simply has less to work with. That’s why the best menopausal skincare routine starts long before you open your bathroom cabinet.
This is one of the core principles of The Menopause Pantry. Rather than focusing on restriction or chasing the latest superfood, it’s about filling your kitchen with everyday foods that give your body the information it needs to repair, restore and thrive.
Think of these as the five foundations for healthy, glowing skin during menopause.
Protein – The Building Blocks
Collagen and elastin are both made from amino acids, which come from the protein you eat. If your protein intake is too low, your body has fewer building blocks available to repair skin, strengthen hair and support healthy nails.
Healthy Fats – Keeping Skin Supple
Healthy fats form part of every cell membrane and help maintain your skin’s natural barrier, keeping it softer, stronger and less prone to dryness. They also help your body absorb important fat-soluble vitamins that contribute to healthy skin.
Fibre – Supporting the Body From Within
Fibre does far more than support digestion. It feeds your beneficial gut bacteria, helps eliminate excess hormones and waste products, supports your liver and helps keep blood sugar levels stable. Together, these all influence inflammation, hormone balance and, ultimately, the health of your skin.
Micro-nutrients – Nature’s Skincare
Colourful fruit and vegetables provide vitamin C, vitamin A, zinc, selenium, magnesium and hundreds of other vitamins, minerals and plant compounds that work together to support collagen production, skin repair and protection from everyday environmental stress.
Hydration – More Than Just Water
Healthy hydration isn’t simply about drinking more water. Your body also needs minerals and electrolytes to maintain healthy fluid balance, allowing your cells to use that water effectively. Including mineral-rich foods, plenty of water-rich fruit and vegetables, and seasoning meals appropriately can all help support healthy hydration.
This is one of the reasons I don’t believe in counting calories.
Your body isn’t counting calories either.
It’s looking for nourishment.
It’s looking for information.
Every meal is an opportunity to provide the protein, healthy fats, fibre, micro-nutrients and hydration your body needs to build stronger, healthier skin, support your hormones and help you thrive through menopause.
Because glowing skin isn’t something you apply.
It’s something your body creates when it has everything it needs.
Ready to nourish your skin from the inside out?
Healthy Skin Needs Nourishment, Not More Chemicals
Once you’ve given your body the nutrients it needs to build healthy skin, the next step is to think about what you’re putting on it.
Your skin is your largest organ and acts as a protective barrier between your body and the outside world.
While that barrier does an incredible job of keeping many things out, some ingredients applied to the skin can still be absorbed.
During menopause, your body is already adapting to changing hormones.
At the same time, your liver is working hard to process hormones, medications, alcohol and the countless chemicals we’re exposed to every day through food, water, household products and personal care products.
The goal isn’t to achieve perfection or to throw everything away overnight.
It’s simply to reduce your body’s overall toxic load wherever you can.
One of the biggest changes I’ve made over the last few years is giving up perfume.
I loved wearing fragrance, but once I started learning more about the chemicals hidden behind a single word on an ingredients list, “parfum”, it became one of those simple swaps that felt right for me.
The same goes for choosing skincare with fewer unnecessary ingredients and being cautious of products that promise miracles while containing synthetic fragrances, artificial colours and other ingredients that may place an additional burden on the body.
This isn’t about fear.
It’s about supporting your body during a time when it deserves as much nourishment and as little unnecessary stress as possible.
When you combine nutrient-rich food with thoughtful, low-tox skincare choices, you’re working with your body instead of expecting another cream to do all the hard work.
The best menopausal skincare routine doesn’t begin with buying more products.
It begins by nourishing the body that’s wearing them.
Your Skin Is Reflecting Your Health
Your skin is often one of the first places your body tells you something has changed.
Dryness, dullness, increased sensitivity and slower healing aren’t simply signs of getting older.
During menopause, they’re often signals that your body needs a different kind of support.
Your hormones don’t work in isolation. Neither does your skin.
Healthy, glowing skin depends on a network of systems working together.
- Your digestive system needs to absorb nutrients efficiently.
- Your liver needs to process hormones and eliminate waste.
- Your gut microbiome helps regulate inflammation and supports hormone balance.
- Stable blood sugar protects the collagen you’ve worked so hard to build, while…
- Good sleep gives your body the opportunity to repair and regenerate overnight.
That’s why I don’t believe menopausal skincare is just about finding the right moisturiser.
It’s about creating the right environment for your body to do what it already knows how to do.
When you nourish yourself with real food, reduce your exposure to unnecessary chemicals and work with your body instead of against it, your skin has the opportunity to become healthier from the inside out.
Will it erase every wrinkle?
No.
Menopause is a natural transition, not a problem to fix, and our skin will continue to change as we age.
But healthy skin isn’t about looking twenty-five again.
It’s about feeling confident in your own skin, knowing you’re supporting your body with everything it needs to thrive during this next chapter of life.
The Products I Use to Support My Skin
While I firmly believe the best menopausal skincare routine starts in the kitchen, that doesn’t mean I ignore what I put on my skin.
Once you’ve given your body the nutrients it needs to build healthy skin, choosing products that nourish and protect your skin rather than simply masking symptoms makes perfect sense.
Over the past few years, I’ve become much more mindful of the ingredients in my skincare. I’ve moved away from heavily fragranced products and now choose formulations that work with my skin instead of adding to my body’s chemical burden.
That’s one of the reasons I became a Tropic Skincare Ambassador.
Tropic’s products are freshly made in the UK using naturally derived, nutrient-rich ingredients and are designed to support healthy skin without relying on unnecessary synthetic fragrances or harsh chemicals. They align beautifully with my philosophy of nourishing the body both inside and out.
Some of my personal favourites include:
- Smoothing Cleanser – a gentle cleanser that removes make-up and impurities without stripping the skin.
- Vitamin Toner – helps hydrate and refresh while preparing the skin for the next steps.
- Skin Feast Nourishing Cream – my everyday moisturiser, packed with plant-based ingredients to support dry, menopausal skin.
- Super Greens Nutrient Boost Oil – ideal when my skin needs extra nourishment and a healthy glow.
- SPF Skin Shade – because protecting your skin from UV damage is just as important as nourishing it.
If you’re looking to simplify your skincare routine or would like help choosing products suitable for menopausal skin, I’d love to help.

Alternatively, if you prefer to keep your skincare routine beautifully simple, natural oils and butters can be incredibly nourishing too.
Jojoba oil, fractionated coconut oil, raw shea butter and castor oil (learn more about the benefits of castor oil HERE) are all wonderful options for moisturising and protecting menopausal skin.
I love using these alongside my Tropic products, often blending the natural oils with carefully chosen essential oils and botanicals to create seasonal skincare tailored to my skin’s changing needs.
Just as I adapt the food I eat throughout the year, I also enjoy adapting my skincare to reflect the changing seasons and the needs of my body.

This Week’s Recipe: Grilled Steak, Heirloom Tomatoes & New Potatoes
The New Moon marks the beginning of a new cycle and invites us to slow down, restore and rebuild. During our reproductive years this phase aligns with menstruation, when nutrients such as iron and B vitamins may be depleted. Even after menopause, this remains a wonderful time to pause and choose meals that feel deeply nourishing.
This simple summer recipe combines lean steak for protein, iron and zinc with heirloom tomatoes bursting with vitamin C and antioxidants. New potatoes provide slow-release carbohydrates and fibre to replenish energy, making this a balanced meal that supports strength and vitality without restriction.
