How Much Protein Do You Really Need?

Are you confused by the term Macros?

Maybe you know that Macros are macronutrients and they are Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat.

With all the conflicting information online you may be confused about how much of each of these macronutrients you should be consuming for a healthy balanced diet.

Menopause and Protein

The average age of Menopause is 51.

With the length of transition to menopause being anything up to 14 years we can start to experience any of the 34 official symptoms of menopause (not to mention the many more non-official symptoms) at any time from our late 30s.

One of the most common symptoms is weight gain, especially around the tummy area.

If we start to experience weight gain we might turn to low-fat diets in a bid to stop the spread.

The trouble with low-fat diets is they are naturally higher carb, a salad is a high-carb meal.

For our body to make hormones and neurotransmitters it needs to balance hormones and combat the hormone imbalance of the transition through menopause it needs enough Protein and Healthy Fat.

High Protein Diets

Have you ever followed a high protein or Keto diet?

You may have had success in the loss of body fat following this way of eating.

This issue arises when we can’t stick to it long-term as we are craving carbs.

The carbs we crave are not a light salad, they are quick carb-release foods such as bread, cakes or biscuit and crisps.

The reason for this is that although our body needs healthy fats and protein to make new cells and repair, it needs carbohydrates to fuel the brain.
