New Year, New Decade, Lets do this!

Don't fear failure quote. New Year, New Decade, Lets do this!

New Year, New Decade, Let’s do this!

Happy New Year!

I love New Year. It really does feel like a new beginning to me. New possibilities, a new page to create whatever you want.

What do you want for 2020?

My family and I have just returned from a lovely couple of days away with friends. The first thing I wanted to do upon our return was to make the house ‘normal’ again. So, within 2 hours, all the Christmas decorations were down, the tree was ready to be recycled and everywhere was dusted and hoovered – bliss! Plus a tick in the workout column for the day 🙂

Next on my list was the fridge!

Confession time, this is what I found:

  • Unused sausage meat stuffing
  • Leftover trifle
  • Rotting fruit and veg
  • Souring cream and milk
  • Moulding leftovers

What a lot of waste! So this is where my first 2020 resolution came from:

1. Waste less Food!

How am I going to do this?

  • Make lists of all the foods I currently have
  • Create a meal plan weekly based on these lists
  • Use my freezer well and quickly freeze leftovers
  • Add these leftover to my list!

A great resource for using leftovers in recipes is, www.lovefoodhatewaste.com. You can type whichever leftover food you have into the search area and find recipes that incorporate this ingredient along with loads of other ideas on how to reduce waste.

My Lists

  • Store Cupboard
  • Freezer contents
  • Fridge
  • Condiments

Armed with these lists I created a family menu for a week and only spent £30 at the supermarket on additional ingredients and bits and pieces required!

New Resolution…..

2. Spend less money on food!

How am I going to do this?

  • By using and sticking to my meal plan
  • Using leftovers before they need to be thrown out
  • Only buying what I need and not ‘just in case purchases’
  • Planning well and cooking delicious food rather than getting takeaways!

So, for the next week or so I am going to concentrate on implementing these two resolutions. I want these habits to stick and I think a side effect of these two habits will be

  • A healthier more balanced diet
  • A healthier bank account
  • More focus and energy for my best 2020!

So, what are your goals for 2020? Write them out, break them down into manageable steps and review every week to stay on track.
