Why choose seasonal food?

Just because so many varieties of food are now available to us all year round doesn’t mean we should choose and buy these.

Food of the season is packed with flavour and nutrients as it is harvested at its peak, therefore, it is better for your health. It may also benefit your health by containing the nutrients you need for that particular season, this fresh spring greens to cleanse your liver and give you energy, light water-packed fruit and salads of the summer, comforting nutrientdense foods of the winter to maintain our immune system, nature knows what she is doing!

This way of eating is not only good for you but good for the environment. Produce which is in season is available locally within your region, it reduces the number of miles your food travels before it arrives on your plate as well as being more abundant and therefore cheaper, it also supports local farmers.

Foods shipped to us from a great distance in order to give us the same varieties all year round are often covered in pesticides, waxes and preservatives in order to maintain their fresh appearance. Residues of which can have health risks associated with it.

Eating seasonally increases the likelihood of eating Organic produce as the produce grown in season is meant to grow at this time, it is stronger to fight off pests and disease with little or no intervention.
