Mid-Year Reset

Mid-Year Reset
It’s not too late to review or pivot

Mid-Year Reset.

What were your New Years Resolutions?

Was 2020 going to be ‘Your Year!’?

The good news is that if you aren’t where you wanted to be by this time it’s not too late to review and get back on track. Maybe your goals have changed? Then this a perfect time to review and pivot.

Where do you start?

At the beginning!

What were your goals for this year? Were they reasonable? Were they SMART?

S – Specific M – Measurable A – Achievable R – Realistic T – Timed

Sometimes we set ourselves up for a fall. We either over estimate what can be achieved or we have absolutely no plan in place to achieve what we want to.

Accept where you are

Don’t beat yourself up. Negative self-talk is not going to help you. The past 12 weeks have been unprecedented and everyone’s experience has been different. Some have found the whole experience overwhelming others have flourished.

If you have had some positive experiences during Lockdown, what do you want to continue and bring forward with you as life returns to ‘normal’.

I have found some amazing walks right on my doorstep and explored further than I ever have. I have also connected with friends who live further away from me with Zoom calls which will be a great way to continue to keep in touch between face to face meets. With less time travelling at the weekend for sporting activities I have spent more time in the garden and definitely want to continue to make time for this activity as life get inevitably busier.

Motivation

Maybe with the slower pace of life you have lost your motivation?

The best advice I can give here is, just get started! Do one thing, then another and so on. For instance:

If one of your goals is to drink more water, fill up a jug or a bottle if you are on the go, add some lemon, lime or cucumber to it and aim to finish it in the morning, do the same for the afternoon.

If you wanted to plant a vegetable garden but still haven’t got started, its not too late. Pop to your local garden centre this weekend, pick up some lettuce seeds, I planted some more Saturday and they have started sprouting already! You can buy young vegetable plants too if you have missed the time for sowing, by August you will have your own crop.

Do you want to do more or start exercising? Can you get up 15-30 minutes early and squeeze in an online workout or go for an early morning walk, it really is a beautiful time of day at the moment.

Getting back into a routine

During Lockdown many of us have had our usual routine ripped out from under us. This in itself can be demotivating. I believe routines are important, this kinda goes against my Gemini mind BUT I have learned routines actually give me freedom, by getting done what I need to get done I can make time to pursue my dreams 🙂

Create a morning routine, just a handful of activities to not only get you set you up for the day but trigger certain behaviours and Healthy Habits.

Bookend your day by creating an evening routine. Try using a Habit Tracker and mark off all your achievements before bed.

What can you do the night before to ensure a smoother running morning and make extra time available the next day to work on your goals, for example, making a healthy breakfast (overnight oats) and preparing a salad to go with lunch? With these preparations made it will help you keep to a healthy eating goal the next day.
