Top 5 Nutrition Tips.
Each week in July I am going to share with you my top 5 tips for each of my 4 pillars of health:
- Nutrition
- Exercise
- Rest & Recovery
- Emotional/Spirit
Nutrition is a subject I could go on and on about! I struggled to pick my top 5 but here we go….
Start the day right
Breakfast. Or whenever the first time you eat is. Some people wake up ravenous, others skip breakfast and this is ok as long as that’s what your body wants. If you are missing breakfast to save calories because you want to lose weight, this could have the opposite effect by not waking up your metabolism.
Whatever you choose as your first meal of the day make it as nutritious as you can. This is a good meal to add nuts, seeds, root powders etc to help balance your energy levels.
Make your 5-10 a day a Habit
When we create habits it takes away decision fatigue. A habit is something we do automatically, it doesn’t need a decision making, we just do it!
Try to include fresh fruit and vegetables at each meal and snack to make your 5-10 a day effortless. I love coming up with creative ways to help my clients do this.
Balance each meal
There are so many diets and ways of eating available to us these days and if you have found one that suits you that is great but beware…..
If you are excluding entire food groups from your diet on a regular basis you could be missing out on vital nutrients which will affect your long term health and wellness.
Try to balance each meal with something from each food group and if you can’t how can you supplement this?
Make your Calories Count
Don’t be cheap! Spend your calories with abandon but choose nutritious calories not empty ones.
Invest in your Gut Health
I can not begin to explain in a top tip how important gut health is, I should have written this one first but each of the preceding tips help this one.
Consider investing in a good probiotic or at least include probiotic foods in your diet and then FEED them! Those good bacteria that colonise your gut need to eat, good nutritious fibrous food to thrive – just like us!
