5 Ways to Naturally Detox your body today!
Do we need to detox?
The short answer is no! Our bodies are very clever, they are designed to keep us healthy by riding us of toxins. However, there are daily habits we can perform though to support this.
1.Lemon Water
Lemons are high in Vitamin C which has all kinds of health benefits such as,
- Supporting the immune system
- Helps protect from disease
- Lowers blood pressure
- It is an antioxidant, protecting us from free radicals

- Hydrate our bodies
- Gets our digestive system moving
- Support weight loss – whether this is due to the hydrating and cleansing effect on the body hasn’t been proven in humans yet, but there is evidence found in studies with mice.
New Habit
- Upon waking make a large glass of warm water and squeeze half a lemon into it
- During the day add slices of lemon to your water for extra flavour and nutrients
2. Dry Body Brushing
This is a combination of exfoliation and massage, it involves moving a dry, natural brush over the body in long, pressured strokes. The ancient technique lifts and buffs away dead skin cells encouraging lymph node drainage and increases circulation.
New Habit
- Add dry body brushing to your daily routine, maybe when you brush your teeth or before you step into the shower. You will notice the difference in the tone and texture of your skin.
NB: Don’t press too hard or perform for too long, the idea is to work towards your heart and use circular motions over your abdomen, avoiding your breasts. It should leave you with a light tingle and healthy glow.
3. Get enough sleep

So, how do we get a good nights sleep?
- Keep your bedroom cool, ideally 15-23 degrees celsius
- Use aromatherapy such as a lavender pillow spray
- Have a bedtime routine and regular bedtime
- Give yourself 30-60 minutes to wind down, ideally without screens
- Don’t eat a heavy meal before bed
- Make sure you expose yourself to natural light during the day, especially during the winter months. This signals to the body to be awake and alert, then make your bedroom as dark as possible with black out blinds or an eye mask.

- Decide on the minimum number of hours you will sleep
- Develop an evening routine that works backwards from your wake up time to make this happen
- Make a good wind-down routine to signal to your body that it is time to sleep
4. Get active
Exercise can kick start the bodies natural detox process. It flushes out the lungs and cleanses the skin as we work up a sweat. Exercise also increases blood flow promoting better circulation pumping white blood cells through the body, in turn, helping the organs cleanse you – talk about
Exercise also regulates digestion enabling food waste to be washed away from the body helping move food eaten along the gastrointestinal tract.
New Habit
- Aim for 30 minutes exercise a day
- Do 10 minutes stretching or Yoga sun salutation each morning
- Take the stairs instead of a lift
- Walk as often as you can during your day
5. Eat Clean
Eat food in its least processed form as much as possible. Reduce sugar, salt and alcohol which puts pressure on our organs. Choose

- Add a green smoothie to your weekly/daily meal plan
- Have alcohol free days each week
- Use a meal planner and plan your meals for the week to reduce unhealthy choices
- Choose foods as close to their natural state as possible
