Top 5 Emotional Wellbeing tips.

‘A positive sense of wellbeing which enables an individual to be able to function in society and meet the demands of everyday life; people in good mental health have the ability to recover effectively from illness, change or misfortune.’

Mental Health Foundation

This week I am sharing my Top 5 Tips to care for your Emotional Wellbeing, which could translate to your energy or your spiritual wellbeing.

I believe we need to look inside for this, we can’t rely on outside influences to keep us happy, its an inside job! That doesn’t mean we don’t build a team around us to help us, we just don’t rely on them solely.

A good place to start is by creating a bulletproof morning routine. A handful of things you do to put you in a positive frame of mind for the day, to get you ahead of the game. There are many resources available on the subject, my favourite is The Miracle Morning, find out more <<HERE>>

Positive Self Talk

Positive self-talk can reduce the negative effect of stress and anxiety. A positive outlook is linked to health benefits such as:

  • Physical wellbeing
  • Reduced pain
  • Vitality
  • Improved immune function

I am naturally a ‘the glass is half full’ kinda girl. Is that just the way I am? Is it due to my upbringing? My parents were positive influences. Whatever the reason I believe it can become a learned habit and a good habit.

Try using positive affirmations to change your thinking and improve your self talk.

Spend Time in Nature

There is something about being in nature and the whole realisation of our tiny place in the grand scheme of things that can put any problems we are experiencing into perspective.

Being in nature can provide a calming effect on our stress levels. More and more research is being conducted on the benefits to our health and wellbeing.

When I talk about emotional wellbeing I am also talking about spiritual wellbeing. Whatever your spiritual beliefs I believe we connect with these deeper when in nature.

Being outside in nature also increases our exposure to daylight and the benefits of Vitamin D.

How can you spend more time in nature? Take a daily walk or move your exercise routine outside. Tend to your garden, visit a local park or area of natural beauty.

Protect your energy

We give an enormous amount of ourselves every day, to:

  • Children
  • Partners
  • Parents/family
  • Friends
  • Work/Colleagues

Plus many more through our daily interactions. Don’t waste your energy reacting to negative influences, trying to control situations or people you have no control over. We can only control our own reactions and our own actions, make sure these are in line with your values. Set some healthy boundaries, you can read more about that <<HERE>> in a previous post, Creating Boundaries for a Balanced Life.

Call or Meet a Friend

Build a strong and dependable social circle.

Support each other, no judgement and there doesn’t even need to be a solution given, just somewhere you can rant and rage or talk things through.

If you are dealing with an issue sometimes hearing yourself talking out loud can give you a solution. A friend kindly pointing out something you are missing or just agreeing with your perspective can have a lightening effect on the soul.

Clear the Clutter

Decluttering can have a profound effect on how you feel emotionally.

I personally find it easier to relax when my environment is tidy. I sleep better in a tidy room, I work better at a tidy desk, I cook better in a tidy kitchen!! You can read more about this in my previous post, Tidying, Life-Changing?

Decluttering can also be done with people who drain your energy. Decide to spend less time with these people or if you have a friend with unhealthy habits, choose to do something different together, like go for a walk to catch up.

Declutter your social media. Who pops up on your newsfeed that makes you groan? You don’t need to unfriend them just don’t follow them! I also don’t recommend even looking at social media until your are grounded in your day after following a kick-ass morning routine.

Bonus tip – Dance it out!

Create a killer playlist, full of your favourite, high energy, ‘Dance it Out’ songs. Whenever you feel low, or in a funk put it on, blast it out and Dance! Actually you can do it anytime, keep your energy high.

Have a great week
