Wired But Tired in Menopause? Your First SHIFT May Be a Nervous System Reset.

You sit down at the end of the day and tell yourself, right… I’m done.

Except you’re not, are you?

Because the brain is still whirring.

There’s tomorrow’s to-do list, something you forgot to order, that text you need to reply to, and a hundred tiny things quietly running in the background.

Then you do what most of us do, pick up your phone for a little scroll to switch off… and somehow end up watching reels about batch cooking, decluttering, growing tomatoes and reorganising kitchen cupboards – well thats my algorithm!

Which, instead of calming you down, just gives you another list of things you should be doing.

So your body is exhausted… but your brain never quite lands.

The Hidden Pattern Beneath the Symptoms

We call it menopause.

We blame hormones.

We assume this is just what happens now.

That midlife means feeling restless, edgy, overwhelmed, and unable to properly switch off.

So we start looking for fixes.

A supplement for sleep.

Magnesium before bed.

Meditation apps.

Less caffeine.

More walks.

A herbal tea that promises calm in a mug.

And while some of these things can absolutely help, many women are left wondering why nothing seems to really shift.

Because this often goes deeper than sleep itself.

Deeper than hormones being “out of balance.”

What many women are experiencing is not simply hormonal chaos.

It is a body that has adapted to living under constant load.

A brain that has become used to always being ON.

A nervous system that no longer knows the difference between a genuine emergency… and the endless low-level pressure of modern life.

  • The mental load.
  • The emotional labour.
  • The overstimulation.
  • The blood sugar crashes.
  • The rushing.
  • The scrolling.
  • The pushing through.

The never quite feeling done.

Menopause does not always create this from nowhere.

But as hormones shift and resilience changes, it can expose the state your body has been surviving in for years.

And suddenly what used to feel manageable…

Starts to feel exhausting.

Why You Feel Wired But Tired

Your body is clever.

It is always listening.

Always adapting.

Always responding to the environment you live in.

If life feels demanding, stressful, rushed, unpredictable, overstimulating, or simply too much for too long, your body doesn’t ignore that.

It adapts.

It shifts into a state designed to help you cope.

A state we often call survival mode.

This can feel helpful in the short term.

You push through.

Keep going.

Do what needs to be done.

Run on adrenaline.

Use caffeine to get started.

Sugar to keep going.

Wine to take the edge off.

And because women are brilliant at carrying on, it can all look very “normal” from the outside.

Until one day it doesn’t.

Because survival mode was never meant to become a lifestyle.

When your nervous system spends too long in a state of pressure, your body can begin to lose its natural rhythm between activation and recovery.

Instead of stress followed by rest…

It becomes stress followed by more stress.

Go, go, go…

Then collapse into bed, exhausted but unable to truly switch off.

This is where “wired but tired” begins to make sense.

Your body may be desperate for rest, but your nervous system is still acting like it needs to stay alert.

Still scanning.

Still braced.

Still running in the background.

And when menopause enters the picture, this can feel even louder.

Shifting hormones don’t necessarily cause the chaos, but they can reduce the buffering that once helped you cope.

So the cracks start to show.

Sleep becomes lighter.

Patience gets shorter.

Anxiety feels bigger.

The 3am wake-ups begin. Read more about these HERE.

And suddenly the body that used to “just get on with it” starts asking for something different.

Not more pushing.

Not more coping.

But support.

The Missing SHIFT May Be Nervous System Support

This is why menopause is not a checklist.

Because you cannot force a body into balance when it still feels like it needs to stay on high alert.

You cannot out-supplement a nervous system that never gets a chance to fully switch off.

And you cannot think your way out of exhaustion when the body is still responding to a constant state of pressure.

This is where so many women get stuck.

They focus on the symptom.

  • The poor sleep.
  • The anxiety.
  • The irritability.
  • The exhaustion.
  • The cravings.

The feeling of being “on edge” all the time, and they try to fix each one individually.

But symptoms are often signals.

Clues.

Messages from a body that is responding to something deeper.

This is one of the reasons I created the Menopause SHIFT System, because menopause is not about hormones in isolation.

It is about understanding the patterns beneath your symptoms and identifying what your body may be asking for now.

For some women, that first SHIFT may be nutrition.

For others, blood sugar support.

For others, detox pathways.

And for many women who feel wired but tired…

The missing SHIFT may be nervous system support.

Not forcing yourself to “relax.”

Not adding more to your to-do list.

Not trying another sleep hack.

But creating the internal conditions where your body can finally feel safe enough to exhale.

This is what I call the Slow Living Lifestyle part of the Ignite Pathway.

Learning how to support your nervous system, reduce the hidden load, and work with your body and your lifestyle instead of constantly pushing against it.

The goal is not to “fix” menopause.

The goal is to create the conditions where your body can begin to regulate, recover, and find balance again.

Discover Your First SHIFT

If menopause were a checklist, you would probably feel better by now.

But it isn’t.

It is a transition.

And transitions require guidance, not more guesswork.

If you are tired of feeling wired, exhausted, overwhelmed, and never quite able to switch off…

It may be time to stop asking,

“What symptom do I need to fix?”

And start asking,

“What is my body responding to?”

Because that question changes everything.

In my 30-minute Menopause Breakthrough Call, we use the Menopause SHIFT System to look at what may be driving your symptoms and uncover the First SHIFT your body may need to get you moving in the right direction.

For some women, that is nervous system support.

For others, it may be blood sugar, nutrition foundations, hidden stress load, detox pathways, or lifestyle patterns that have quietly been pushing the body out of balance.

This is not another checklist.

Not another generic menopause chat.

And not another list of supplements to buy.

It is a focused, personalised conversation designed to help you cut through the noise and understand what your body may be asking for now.

So you can stop guessing and start moving forward with clarity, confidence, and a plan that fits your body and your life.
